[For a moment Ace is stunned into silence, eyes wide and expression vulnerable and broken down. Because of what Smoker said, what Smoker would do for him, the sheer level of devotion between them is frightening. This is love, he swears it. It's a pulsing, twisting, burning, suffocating and yet somehow wonderful and addictive feeling, and his heart is beating so hard and he swears he can feel it in his head, as if the slamming rush is there and not in his body, and not mostly imagined.
Ace swears he can taste his own heartbeat, just from the noise. It's like everything that he held between them, every bit of defense left that he'd built up to try to protect himself in case Smoker wasn't serious about this, was just peeled away. Like invisible fingers had pushed their way up under his skin and into his heart and head, and ripped away what was left of his invisible walls. And dammit, if he wasn't so aroused, if he wasn't so excited, the emotion shift could have very well gone towards tears.
Ace is shaking. He doesn't realize it, but he's trembling and unable to really think at all about anything but Smoker. And his face shares some of that level of emotion in his expression for a moment, as it shifts between such youth and vulnerability, endless trust, and then an almost frightening amount of love. Ace doesn't hide his feelings well, not when he's been laid this bare emotionally, and Smoker gets to see the full brunt of Ace unable to hide what he feels for him at all.
It's too much, too fast. For anyone else anyway. But Ace is an addict for love, he needs it, lives on it, and he's already died once so he's not going to pretend to be sensible about anything. Besides, he's already waited on what he wants. He's been good and patient, and he's done with all of that holding back nonsense.
