Smoker's return [Action / Video]

[The minute Smoker realizes he's back in Luceti, he gets his jitte. Like hell he's letting some pirate take it for a few months again. Then there's the basic things. A month's supply of cigars, and oh, isn't that nice of him, they even thought to get him a bunch of his own marine brand. They literally say marine on the little gold tabs, so surely no pirates would want to try them, right? Then it's off to get coffee, prowl around the general vicinity and head on home. As he's heading inside, the sheer amount of packages he's carrying jostles the journal open.]

Ikki, I have to thank you for the Cosmos-- Haki... [Annoyed growl. No Ikki. :| Figures. So he goes to open the journal for real and everyone can get a look at Smoker, two years later, no longer wearing his hair in ~~awesome~~ spikes, sunglasses, a giant scar, but still 100% Smoker.] Where the hell is Ikki? And how long have I been gone that he moved out? [He can tell Ikkk is still in Luceti, if not where, but what the hell man?] What's the date?

Right, to everyone else, I'm Vice Admiral Smoker. [Oh that's right, he uses his real title now. Watch out world.] As soon as I can, I'd like to get back into teaching jitte and kickboxing. Any old or new students, we'll meet at the barracks. Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays are open sessions, the other days can be scheduled for private hours or one on one sparring. If anyone spots a marine, let me know. Do not try to engage anyone from G5 in a regular conversation, they've earned their reputation as being pyromaniac psychos, just send them my way and I'll deal with them. [There is no affection to that. If anything "deal with them" sounds a little like "beat senseless and chain to a wall somewhere." Anyone want to laugh at him for his choice of command post?]

I assume we must be in a New Feather cycle, so welcome to Luceti. There are other people teaching forms of martial arts or filial magic, but unless the Drafts and missions have stopped -- which I doubt -- you'll want to take advantage of at least one form if you can.

All right, that's all.

I definitely can't let down Smoker-kun either, so that's why I have to try my best.

No, definitely don't do that. The world can't handle anymore like us in that way.

So because Ikki-kun and Smoker-kun are already there, I can't become a tsundere as well..?

... But.. I'm already practicing it a little. Ryoji-kun taught me how to do it.

Be like. "Oh. I didn't think you'd be here. I just came to get a book." and aloof and hard to get. Kind of like Ikki when he's pretending he doesn't have a giant crush on you. And then the "dere" is when it's obvious that he does anyway. Right? I think that's how it goes. [Nods his head to himself. ~~And then Ikki killed Smoker. The end.~~]

[ OKAY, OKAY, JUST WATCH HER, SMOKER. Totally imitating what you just said and all. ]

Oh. I didn't think you'd be here. I just came to get a book. [ except it's in Kotomi voice so it just ends up sounding.. very monotone and blank.. ]

[Frowns and shakes his head. Not that it's too visible outside of snapshots.]

Not... exactly. I think you should stick to just being yourself Kotomi-chan. If you try to be tsundere, Ikki would probably think you don't like him anymore. I'm pretty sure two tsundere people in a relationship would kill it. You're best off just trying to interpret it.

Maybe I should make a dictionary or something. All right, when Ikki says something he doesn't dislike something it means he likes it. Or if he claims he's doing something selfish, it's not really selfish, he just doesn't want anyone feeling guilty about it. [Sighs. THIS IS HARD.] It's a lot about tone...

Huh? It'd be bad..? [ her expression drops a little. ] I wouldn't want Ikki-kun to think I don't like him. Ikki-kun is one of my very important friends..

[ also, there's totally the sound of scribbling after that, she's taking notes about what Smoker says. ]

So.. when he says something, he actually means the opposite?

Not always, and not the literal opposite. But remember when we had the discussion about whether he liked your voice and how he thought of you as a treasure?

Yeah... it's like that. He can't say exactly what he feels so the other words are a front. Like a shield. Okay so I think he said something like how your voice is good for reading books. Well, that means a lot more because he's tsundere. So it'd be like if you told someone you really loved their voice. Or when he said it wasn't a big deal if you talked very night or not... well that wasn't the whole truth, it's a big deal to him, but he can't say that because then you might have felt obligated to and he wants it to be your choice. The reason it's a big deal is because you were choosing to talk to him. See what I mean, maybe?

A little bit, maybe.. [ she nods slightly, but she doesn't seem to fully understand yet - what are social interactions.. ]

But I don't get why Ikki-kun would do that. I wouldn't feel obligated at all. Then does he feel obligated if I'd say it's a big deal..?

[A sigh. Oh Kotomi this all makes Smoker realize that he himself is REALLY dense sometimes. It's a strange sort of existentialism crisis.]

I don't think so, but if he did, it'd be the kind of obligation he'd be happy to have. Sort of like being responsible for walking a dog.... only better. It's hard to explain. He just wouldn't think you'd want to be with him that much because he thinks he's not worth it. And that's not something you can change by telling him he is, even if it's the truth. He just won't see it.

[Seriously. Lots of existentialism here.]

[ don't get stuck in your crisis, Smoker..!! ;u; ]

But.. that's sad. That's really, really sad.. [ and she does really sound like she finds it sad, even with.. well, you know, the Kotomi tone and all. ]

Ikki-kun is a great person, so he's worth a lot of things.. Why can't he believe that? Why won't he listen if people tell him that..?

[Thinks this over.]

You know how some people won't let anyone else define them? Ikki doesn't let anything negative anyone says get him down either. But that means for him to think something about himself he has to reach that decision on his own. Best you can do is try to give reasons and prove it through actions. But then because he's tsundere he tries to come up with other reasons that the nice things he does aren't so altruistic in nature. It makes it very difficult.

Just stay by his side, all right? Eventually he'll trust that you have your reasons and accept it if you do.

.. It does sound very difficult.. More difficult than any book I have ever read.

[ tsunderes: now more difficult than physics and practically every difficult subject out there ever. ]

But if Smoker-kun says staying by Ikki-kun's side will be alright, that that will really make things fine.. Then I'll just have to try my best to do that, right?

Yeah, people are a weird puzzle. [Smoker understands people; grudgingly. He's just not a fan of most of them. And the rest he's so tsundere about that it's a mess.]

The more the better. Besides you can be a friend to him in ways I can't and I think that's a really good thing for him. You like staying by his side, right?

Then I'll be by Ikki-kun as much as I can.. since yes, I really, really like it too. It's nice to be able to talk to Ikki-kun every day, even if he said it's not a big deal..

And he and I tend to discuss different things like politics and justice... [And she's cute? No wait he can't say that as a reason. Damn this is hard.] And it's just different, really different. He and I have gone weeks without talking, just because there wasn't as much to say about anything in particular. But you guys talk every night, I'm not sure I even could do that. [He's quite certain he could not. Also yay! He found a way!]

Politics and justice..? I have never discussed that before with Ikki-kun. So that really must be something only Smoker-kun can do as a friend of Ikki-kun's..

[ That other part makes her blink, though. ] Smoker-kun and Ikki-kun can go weeks without talking? Isn't that sad or lonely..?

[orz. He can only concede the tsundere. He will deny "cute" until the day he dies. And even then his deathbed denial will be "I'm not cute damn it!"]

Yeah, politics and justice is sort of my thing. Even in my world that's what my friends come to me to discuss. [True facts. Even if they disagree with him.]

I don't think it's sad, and it's not really lonely, that's why we're roommates at all. It's just how we are. Sometimes we're quiet if there isn't much going on. [Really quiet. Though thanks to Kotomi (and Grell) Smoker and Ikki are actually talking to each other more as well. So good job all around.]
