[Voice] Jitte, Self-Defense, and Executions

Hello New Feathers and old, I'm Cap-- Err Smoker. [Wow Proof he has done this message way too many times, he momentarily forgot his own rank. Woops. Not that it even matters here.]

I teach jitte, kickboxing, and basic self-defense outside the barracks, and it's open to anyone, no matter how inexperienced. As you may have heard by now, every so often the Malnosso take people at random for drafts, and while non-combatants have other opportunities to help support, any self defense can help.

For others, I wanted to ask about other world's or country's history regarding executions. Are there any that changed the world, or have other people here seen them personally?

A phoenix?

[Give him a second here. He was expecting a story about a brother dying in an execution. What he didn't expect was a story about another brother almost dying in an execution.

Because that young man's Luffy. No doubt about it. There's no pirate coming from East Blue who would want to be the Pirate King as much as he does. And it's really not hard to imagine his crazy reckless little brother would grow up to become someone who'd face death with a smile. But to think Luffy's dream almost ended like that...

There's a small sound here that's a cross between a laugh and a sob before the kid manages to speak again, with something like anticipation in his voice.] T-that's unbelievable. So... what happened next? Did he--?

Yep! It should be fun! [ Ikki will always sign up for all the things ever. This will never change. ]

Ah, seastone? Soooooo that's something that makes devil fruit stuff not work? [ ...She might've heard something about it, but she's not sure. People tell her a lot of things. ]

Great, bright and early then, don't forget. [The only reason Smoker will do his workouts before 12 is for a kid.]

Correct. It's also the hardest substance in the world. Even more than diamonds. [Ikki you are the most prolific conversationalist in Luceti and you should feel proud.]

Yep! I always get up really early. Grandpa has firebending before airbending, so that's when I can come see you.

Huh. And it comes from the sea? ...That'd make sense, I guess! [ Seeing as how the sea = bad for devil fruit users, something she's had explained to her a few times. ]

[A little worried by that sound, because he didn't mean to scare Sabo, mostly just because he didn't think it would be that unnervingly obvious to anyone that it was Luffy. Smart kid indeed.]

Freak lightning strike struck the knife and tower and his rubber devil fruit saved him.

Needless to say, the crowd gathered there was quite shocked. [Shocked. Get it? Sabo will totally get this pun better than Dragon. Maybe. Actually fuck puns; moving on.]

Moreover, despite the gathered marines having been well-equipped with seastone nets, they were unable to fire them due to the sudden rainstorm. While unpredictable storms so close to the Grand Line are not uncommon for Loguetown, no one could have predicted this one. [WELL, Nami did, but Smoker doesn't know that. Not that he'd be surprised by this knowledge at this point, having gotten to ~~stalk~~ know her better in Luceti.]

Right. [Aw all of Luceti is filled with smart kids. That and he's getting too used to explaining things to his idiots at G-5 and Luffy. Seriously, that will rot your opinion of other people's intelligence fast.] It's a form of solidified ocean.

[And Smoker takes pride in that they do, but even if Shanks means it as a compliment, or merely a statement of fact, it's still unnerving to hear from a pirate. He doesn't want to hear those things from a pirate! It's like Sanji getting the women's adoration he wants from men. Ew!]

"Loose hound" I believe they call it. [Not something he'd normally own up to so readily, but then, he wouldn't normally be talking with a pirate emperor either. Besides, it seems like nearly every pirate or shichibukai's heard of that reputation and taken to calling him by it more than White Hunter lately anyway.]

Given that he saw that candle wax guy that helped break you out at Marineford get swallowed by a bananadile and survive, I have no doubt he thinks such things are normal. [And thus the snake and shark swallowings were explained.]

[And oh god, you get the rarest of rarities Ace, Smoker is actually laughing.] Should we change his bounty to that?

[He wants to say something about Ace just not having a chance to know more; that Akainu was practically the only one still chasing him at that point, that Smoker really does believe and hope that those who believe in absolute justice are outnumbered, they're just the loudest and worst. But he gets the impression it would just exacerbate things. So he grunts waves a hand, lighting up a fresh pair of cigars.]

He kills marines almost as much as pirates you realize. Something about we're signed up and ready to die for our justice so that's just something that has to be prepared for.

Akainu is an exception not the norm, Portgas.

[A small sigh. He has to believe that, right? That he himself isn't the rare one in the institution of the marines. That people like Aokiji and Tashigi and Hina are still out there.] And if I'm wrong... [It really is the oldest argument Smoker and Ikki get into. How can he follow a man like Akainu when he disagrees with his justice? Because through it all, the pirates are still so much worse. Most of them. Tch.] Then I'll find a way to make it so.

[Starting with protecting those dumbass punks at G5.]

[So far, Sabo had been choosing his words carefully. He doesn't know how far his brothers trust this Marine, only that Ace can have a fairly decent conversation with him, and that Luffy basically treats him like a friend despite being enemies. (But then again, that's Luffy; he's always an exception to any rules.) And Sabo's not exactly aware that he's already been revealed as the third brother, so he's just being cautious here.

But... you know what? He can't help bursting out laughing at that pun. And the utter ridiculousness that is the D luck, after.]

Oh man, that's insane! A-a freak lightning?! A-and a rainstorm? Ahahahaha! Damn, that guy's luck is really, really incredible! [Laughing some more until he needs to catch his breath. And his bias might be showing now.] And? They managed to get away, right?! Did the Marines chase 'em to the sea too?

[Small grin. It's been awhile since he's gotten that kidn of formal address, but it's actually nice to hear from Ikki so he appreciates it and gives a salute back for the journal to take a picture of. He won't salute the brass, but hey for little kids...]

No, they don't. But that's the consequence to piracy. [Sometimes anyway.]

Or in some rare cases, the consequence of chasing idiots into a trap with seastone bars. [... Not that he has personal experience with that totally absurd circumstance, nope.]

Mm-hm. Loguetown's captain at the time actually had a perfect record of not letting any criminals escape his city, however. And he grew up there so he knew it like the back of his hand. [It is a little weird talking about himself in 3rd person, but it'd be stranger talking about it in first, so he's sticking with this for now.] He's also a devil fruit user so he captured Buggy and Alvida in a matter of seconds and headed down to cut off the Straw Hats' path on his motorcycle.

At the time, only Straw Hat had a bounty, so the marine captain was a little arrogant in thinking the rest of the crew didn't matter. [Well, at least he's painfully honest? Not to mention, 2+ years of chasing Luffy & 2 years in Luceti has done a lot to change Smoker's mind about how much the rest of Luffy's crew do matter.] Still, he caught the pirate at jitte point, at the time Straw Hat didn't have his haki under control so he couldn't fight a logia user, but at the last minute the Revolutionary Dragon showed up to rescue him.

There is our answer then. I do hope you would take off should we ever want a little "time off," hm?

Although, to be honest, we're not truly allowed holiday in the mortal sense. Certainly we have work hours, but -- [shrug] -- Death never sleeps.

Sabo finds the 3rd person strange too, since it's kinda obvious who this captain was already from Smoker's tone alone and other little clues. But since he's not one to interrupt a good story, he lets it go in favor of listening avidly. Until that last part.]

W-wait a minute... Why would a Revolutionary rescue Luffy? [There were talks of a Revolutionary group acting against the World Government, but from the bits of news Sabo heard in the town, they seem to still act underground... so why would one save a pirate in plain sight?]

Turns out he's Straw Hat's father.

Not that anyone except Garp and Sengoku knew at the time. That would have actually been useful information on the bounty poster. [Not because Smoker cares who Luffy's related to, just when they get in his way. And a little forewarning about the most wanted man in the world showing up in the middle of nowhere seriously would have been nice.]

You're in luck, since in this place, I'm barely on the job, even if I wanted to be. [But he has a surprise for her, if he can stop being tsundere long enough to invite her.]

Understood. I had a feeling that might be the case. Not a lot of reapers then?

Luckily, I seem to be the same. People simply refuse to remain dead here.

[ask heeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeer.] And there are a fair lot of us, but hardly enough to cover the number of mortal deaths in the entire world in a single day and all the paperwork it creates.

Well, you know, if you've so much free time, I can think of something we can do together. If you're not too busy with the salon thing.

The paperwork will forever be the worst of it. They should definitely hire secretaries just to deal with that.

Technically, we do. It's simply that as Reapers we must write our own reports and such. It's the worst bother when something goes awry,

I got Lupin's help setting up some projectors and film reels, so it's all good to go to watch some movies, if you're interested.

I see. Do things go wry often?
