ooc log because Smoker's crew is awesome

Who: Smoker, Azula, Rinali
What: Training sparring of Smoker vs. Rinali
Why: TEAMWORK :| Which isn't gonna happen. To assess Rinali's skills and so she doesn't get rusty. (changed/modified with Azula's permission, sorry for any and all confusion)
Where: Smoker's main deck (There can be watchers if you have a reason to be there)
Rating: Uh PG for fighting? I'll edit if it gets stronger.

Thick soled boots pounded the wood floor of the commodore's deck as Smoker paced back and forth. Whether this was a bad idea or not remained to be seen. He stretched, flexing large arms muscles and slightly worn shoulders. "Any day now," he growled to himself still waiting. His crew so far had displayed some atrocious team work in their last fight against pirates and while two at once wasn't much he had the vague hope it would work to get them to organize their fighting and team. The minute either refused the help of the other he'd pounce.

Shortly after her conversation with her now new boss, Rinali shut her laptop and hurried to the deck where she would hopefully work on her sparring. She hated that she might of been getting rusty and could no doubt all ready hear the voice of her brother getting angry for slacking on her own personal training. This place wasn't a vacation. They were still in a fight for their lives at home and any slacking here would result in possible casualties back home. That wasn't a risk she was willing to make.

She slid to a stop on the deck and stared up at the massive man that was Smoker, breathing a bit heavily as she offered a straightened back and salute. "S-Sorry sir! I-I had to get dressed for a proper sparring match!" She said though she knew it was no excuse. After her salute, she dropped her arm at her side, dressed in just the small shorts and corset like top that was her fundamental training gear with thigh high black boots and hair done in their normal high tails. "I hope you weren't waiting long."

She perked at that and blinked owlishly wide amethyst eyes at that. Komui knew she dressed like this for her training but Smoker was almost acting like her brother or an overprotective father. "Y-Yes sir? I've always worn this for my training." She said and glanced down at herself. "Is it bad?"

She glanced back up at him and rubbed the side of her cheek. "I don't have anything really other than dresses and I thought that would be worse to fight in." She mused and confessed.

She squeaked when he yelled and shook her head quickly back and forth. "N-No sir, I'm not. I've...always worn this for my training back home a-and there the church was drafty." Came the stammer of words. Why was he angry? Was it really that bad? "I can put on my jacket i-if you're uncomfortable with this?"

She didn't mind, both her uniform and her training were often the most comfortable thing she could wear. Her brother and Johnny saw to it that the Exorcists were nothing but comfortable for their long missions that often took months on end.

Azula was already on deck when Rinali arrived. She didn't understand why Smoker had been so adamant about having her fight with a partner. Not that she ever needed one. As a matter of fact, the fire princess was a little indignant at the thought. But she would do it, for now. If only to appease the commodore. The last thing she needed was him to distrust her.

When Rinali finally arrived, Azula straightened to her full unimposing height and joined them. She didn't remember meeting Rinali before this moment, and if she had, then it was obvious Rinali was no one of importance. She listened to their conversation in silence. She was not here for idle chit-chat. If they were going to spar, she was ready to get this show on the road.

Rinali's gaze tore from Smoker and she glanced towards Azula, offering a faint nod with the smallest of smiles before she looked back at Smoker. "Yes, sir. I'll be sure to get something better for winter, but I'm afraid I must keep my shorts, even if it's cold, because of my Innocence. I'm afraid my legs cannot be constricted." She explained and strained up.

"Ah b-but maybe more conversation after." And a wave of her hand to hopefully steer the conversation to an end so that the training might begin.

"Shall we begin?" Azula looked back and forth between Rinali and Smoker. Were it only her and Smoker, this spar would probably be almost over by now. This observation only proved to Azula that having an extra person around was only going to hinder her. Especially considering Rinali's incessant stuttering. She sincerly wondered if the girl's fighting was any better than her speech.

And if it wasn't, well then that could make for such interesting results. Azula rooted her stance and raised her arms. "Whenever you are ready, Commodore."

Her Innocence would have to wait until the situation called for it. Until then, she did what she knew to do in battles. Asset the situation and size up the enemy. She slid her foot back to balance herself and kept light on her left foot with a squint towards Smoker as she took in his stance, eyes scanning from one part of him to the next, looking for any visible weakness.

She didn't raise her arms since most of her power was in her legs, but she hunched down just a bit to watch, occasionally stealing glances at her 'partner' for any sort of command or body movement for what to do. After all, she didn't want to make choices alone. This was team work.

Her eyes kept watching him as she kept tall and walked from side to side while sizing him up, still looking for any visible weakness. Muscles, he was really all muscles, but every person had a weak point. Akuma often had their weak points in joints but also the power they had that was weak to Innocence. This wasn't the case.

She squinted and took a step closer, then another before she quickly pushed off of the deck of the ship and sprinted towards with rather impressive speed for someone who felt their legs weighed down by the boots she wore that bore her Innocence. Move...open a weak point. She thought to herself.

There was a small instant where their eyes connected when she dashed past him. Good. She was able to see how fast he could dodge someone running at him.

She hopped up as she ran past him and slammed her foot on the edge of the ship's rail and pushed herself up, flipping backwards overtop of her mentor before she came to a kneel before him. Her weight rest back on her left foot and she quickly swept her right under towards his ankles.

Once the kick was stopped, Rinali leaned back with her hands resting on surface of the deck and used the momentum from the blow, however it made her sore, to lift her other leg up and aimed a kick for his shoulder. "Yes sir." She said in retrospect to his advice given.

The kick she aimed went sailing past him as he backed away when his knee freed her kick and twisting her wrists, she turned herself to a handstand and lowered herself back to a normal stance. She could feel herself becoming rusty and it showed in a soft frown.

Fighting without the use of her Innocence was definitely a set back. She was weighed down more and more by gravity, but despite the feeling of failure, she wouldn't give up just yet.

The loud thud broke her from her thoughts and when his boot came aimed at her chest, Rinali's defense took a turn from her offense. Despite not knowing the proper ways to dance, her defense looked more like one than anything. She slide her foot behind her and turned in a spin when his kicked sailed past her, barely nicking her arm that showed in a wince. An opening? She quickly gained her footing with her weight placed back on her right heel and sent her knee up behind his outstretched leg, aimed at the knee in hopes the two would connect.

And just like a dance, Rinali leaned in when he entangled her leg with his, her thigh resting to his. But when he kicked back she winced and bent fluidly back with her leg held tight against his. It was when he spun that she sailed back into the ledge that looked out over the ocean. He definitely had muscles on his side against her. She huffed in a deep breath and rubbed her temple with her bare arm, already working up a bit of a sweat. Another opening..she needed another opening.

She pushed off of the rail and rubbed the back of her neck while she shook out her legs. So heavy...why did they always have to be so heavy with her Innocence. She hated it. "What more shall we do, sir?" She asked.

[identity profile] sanctus-memoria.livejournal.com 2009-08-26 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
"A little heavy. My Innocence feels like weights on my legs." She frowned and rubbed her head lightly and breathed in deep. "But I guess that's not much of an excuse."

Fighting without her Innocence...She nodded slowly and rolled her neck again. "I trust we're finished for now, sir?" She asked while her Innocence summoned around her legs. The fabric morphed and turned to a sort of armor around her knee with the wheels hovering and spinning by her ankles. Her thighs were now bare with just a strap of fabric like a garter holding on.

After it was activated, she stepped up on the air and stared over towards him. "I-If we are, I'd like to go for a fly."
