You said people require more exercise than that of dogs. Why use animals and help with their exercise when you can just do it yourself?

Because animals aren't kept for exercise. The den den mushis are kept to communicate phone calls over long distances which doesn't work through yelling and seagulls deliver mail through the air. There's only 6 devil fruit that give an ability to fly and using them for messengers is impractical.

I just spent an hour in half smoke form going through a cat's mouth so it could survive to get Tim out so that Tim didn't arbitrarily eat the cat.
