[voice] A stormy question

[Hello Luceti, is the nice little ice storm distracting you from post-Valentine's woes? Don't worry, here's a grumpy marine asking questions to painfully reminds you all.]

Seeing as we're all stuck inside -- [Once again, an usually feminine voice from Smoker's journal account.] -- I've got a question for everyone affected by the event.

Are there normally lines you won't cross in relationships that the Malnosso seem to cross for you? Or do they seem to take those into consideration instead? Since they seem to know us pretty well, it begs the question whether they're using our weaknesses, or if it's completely random.

And if anyone needs help out there in the storm, let me know. This weather is good practice.

[ooc: and feel free to threadjump like the dickens. It might be the only time Smoker keeps quieter than not, seeing as he's a girl now.]

[One bundled up, slightly anxious and twitchy surgeon manages to flip open her journal and stare down, hair hanging in loose curls around her face. Adele swallows, thinks it over a moment, and then replies.]

There are lines that were crossed, normally I would never- that is to say- [She sighs and scrubs at her face.] Things were said and done that I would not have even if I had truly felt the way they'd made me feel for the amount of time I'd known him.

Sorry to hear that. So they definitely cross lines.

In more ways than one. Even were we on the best of terms I cannot see myself voluntarily feeling like...like that for Stark.

In a very strange way it is almost humorous. [There's a cut of a wry grin, here.]

Just a few days after I arrived here, I'd been warned about this event. And just a day before the event proper I'd mentioned to Lupin that were the Malnosso truly sadistic, they would pair me off with Stark.

Ouch. You really hate him then?

He is an alcoholic, self-centered, narcissistic womanizing playboy. The fact that he is better in bed and actually intelligent and talented in his area of expertise does not excuse the fact that he is far too similar to my ex-husband for my comfort.

Good reasons. Though, as annoying as we all might find him, I'm sure he didn't mean to hurt you.

He reacted much as I would have expected him to, were I in my right mind the morning after. But- er. Hm. [She rubs the bridge of her nose.] I was. Unkind. Without reason. Which is not something I'd think I'd ever say of him, but it is true. You are right in that he is an irritating man but, he. He is not a cruel man.

He considers himself too much of a hero to be cruel.

That said, whatever little conscience he has is probably beating himself up. Unless his ego overrode it completely and reminded him that it was truly the Malnosso to blame.

Still... First shift is usually the hardest, and the Valentine's one is particularly annoying.

I do not think he would be so open to an apology, let alone clumsy attempt at forgiveness. He cares as much for me as I do for him, normally. Still. I would say I will better prepare myself for the future, but I cannot, not really, if they can manipulate me on such a level. All I can do is accept that I cannot change it, and. Well. Deal. [She shrugs.]

Sometimes just knowing is half of the battle.

Just because they fuck with you doesn't mean you have to change.

[Like Smoker, and his issues with shirts :| Because that is totally healthier.]

But I have, if for the better. Which sounds...strange. I know. Especially considering how badly I took it to begin with but- [She blinks and looks off to the side, over to the huddled group she was locked in with for the rest of the storm.] It has...helped me come to terms with issues I had before I came here. And cope. Or rather, not cope, but forgive myself my past transgressions? That. Makes little sense but it is the best way I can articulate it at the moment.

Coming to terms with the past and moving forward and all that. I think I get it, even if I can't claim to have done the same.

You can only drag a heavy weight around for so long before it tangles around your ankles and keeps you from moving ahead. I'm...tired. Of being held in place by something I can't change. It was unfortunate, it was painful but. I have so many reasons to be happy, now. Why not allow it? [She shrugs.]

Moving forward is always for the best. In my world if you even stop moving for a second, you'll fall behind it before you know it.

It's rather wise of you.

Of me? Oh no. [A sudden laugh, quickly muffled.] No, no. I just...recently. Came to terms with it. It is Lupin, and Ben, and Ginia and...the friends I have made here that have insisted upon it, reminded me of it. Helped me see this. I am not so much wise as I have wise friends.

Still more than most can say.

Wait. Did you just call Lupin wise?

In some respects, he is. In others, not as much. He is as he is, wise or not depending upon the situation.

Let's just go with experienced, and save our brains the trouble of deciphering it further.

But he can be, that is. Except when he's not, and he just acts like he is, or when he is but acts like he's not, or when he isn't and acts like he is but really he isn't or-

[She blinks down at the camera, runs over what she's said, what she meant to say and sighs.]

...I think experienced would be the safest way to put it, yes.

[Chuckles, though it practically comes out as a giggle now.]

Still, his good side is wider than you'd expect.

He has been kind, and far more patient with me than I would have expected. I will have to find him something suitable to thank him for it, one day.

[Pauses trying to think of ideas, but he's got nothing that wouldn't create problems for others (like himself) in Luceti so he just shrugs.]

I'm sure you'll find something suitable.
