Late on the 6th [Voice]

Right, this is Smoker. I'm back in my own body, thanks to everyone who helped when I was a kid, and you know... during the shift.

Jitte and kickboxing lessons will be delayed until the 10th, but that doesn't mean stop practicing. Keep up the exercises, because I'll be very disappointed if any of you start slipping.

For anyone else interested in joining in, I teach basic self defense, kickboxing, and jitte. There are one-on-one sessions and group sessions, feel free to ask about a schedule because with the drafts ongoing, at least you can learn something to get a fighting chance for survival.

And who still here in the village knows anything about motorcycles? A friend recently reminded me life can be too short not to pursue some things.

Lupin, if you still remember the thing I asked Red about, I'd like to discuss it.

If it's a trap though, I'm heading out on that mission tomorrow, so if you want a real fight, wait till I'm back.

[So suspicious forever. But at least it means he still considers Ace a real threat capable of putting up a worthwhile fight. For whatever that's worth to his ego.]

[MORE Silence for a bit. Can they really just drink and forget about the marine/pirate thing? He wants to say it's easier for Ace; having had a marine grandfather and as a bizarre pirate who's even rescued marines before... but after Ace's execution, there was a much slimmer chance that was true. Just an excuse. And if Portgas can put aside that enmity...

But it was different, wasn't it? His boss was still Akainu who killed Ace, however much Smoker hated the man.

Tch. No. Smoker would work for his own justice, and not for any one man. He'd decided on that ages ago, and it was still true.

He half wants to ask why Ace is so willing to look past such things... but he's not sure he's ready for the answer yet.]

[There's a quick scribbling sound as Smoker makes a note for his tsundere translation book he's making for Kotomi.]

... mn. Okay. Take your time. [He might sound... just a little sad. He did just want to have a drink with him! Was it really that bad?]

[Grits teeth.] Portgas, that was a yes. [MORE notes for Kotomi.]

By "we'll see" I mean that literally, in person, whatever happens.

[Folds arms. Ace should thank Kotomi-chan for getting Smoker into the habit of at least explaining some things. In any case, Smoker's pride definitely won't let him let Ace suddenly be better at moving past superficial labels. It's a same-old, same-old isn't it? Since they first met, Ace was the one who said they didn't have to fight and Smoker said he had to arrest him.]

[Except he wasn't going to bother with that in Luceti and... all right, he wasn't comfortable with drinking with a pirate yet, but he did actually want to.]

... it is seriously hard to tell when it's a "yes" or a "no" with you. [God, Smoker, why so tsundere?]

Anyway, I'll go get the drinks. You still just want rum?

Tch, I know. I'm fine with it like that. [He is the King of Tsunderes. Even he if argues that Ikki is.]

Yeah. [Quiet again =\] It's my favorite. [Look he actually volunteered personal information without it being dragged out! PROGRESS.]

Yeah, well it makes it pretty confusing for others.

[Awwwww Smoker admitted something! THIS IS GREAT PROGRESS.] I'll remember that. I'll be at the fountain soon, okay?

Yeah, I'm fine with that too. [Slight smirk.]

[He will be there lurking, and half expecting his daughter to pounce him.]

[He'll end the feed there, and quickly head over to the bar, ask for a bottle of rum and another of sake. Whistling Bink's Sake on his way, he keeps both bottles secure under his arm. Keeping an eye out for that very familiar messy ~~and nomable~~ head of hair, and waves when he recognizes him. Ace heads on over, holding out the bottle for him.]

Hey, Smoker.

[Nods his head and takes the bottle gratefully tilting it to lightly clink against Ace's. Now they are conspirators to rob the bar. But it's okay because there's no money in Luceti anyway.]

Portgas.

So did you escape this last shift aside from Nico Robin's bizarre sense of humor?

[He pries the cap of his bottle and opens it to take a quick swig.]

Nope. Had this weird ass bubble above my head that showed my thoughts. That was... weird.

Oh, hm. That was the first shift I went through there actually.

[Drinks down some of his own bottle.] Maybe they were feeling nostalgic.

Tch, it was nothing but a pain in the ass. [He mumbles to himself a bit before taking another drink.]

Sounds correct. [Drinking more.] Were you at least able to avoid anyone you didn't want to give away embarrassing thoughts to?

Nope. Not a damn bit. It was more like everything I didn't want people to see was seen.

Damn. [Thinking it over. Ace really does keep a lot of secrets and things that set him off easily, doesn't he? On the one hand Smoker's inclined to tell Portgas to toughen up. How much did he really think he could keep a lot of those things secret in a place like Luceti, and how much could they really matter? But then again... it's definitely not the Malnosso's place (or anyone else's, including the marines) to force those secrets out into the open against Portgas' will. So neither side of thinking is one Smoker's willing to express. Besides, it raises another implication when added to the pattern of what else the Malnosso have done to Smoker's friends, and even himself.]

Seems like they seem to isolate precisely the things that will affect everyone the most.

[He takes a long silent drink at that. Good god, he hated that.]

I really wish they would just give us a break sometimes.

They have before. Actually I think that might almost be worse. People get here get stir-crazy.

Though I guess it wouldn't be quite as bad without Blackbeard around now. [Still, there are villains in Luceti and people willing to create mischief if they can get away with it.]

Well, it's not like there's a lot to do here.

[He pauses fora bit, and takes a swig.] Without him, this place is a lot better than I thought.

[Grunts and takes another drink.]

Agreed, actually.

[Not that he would expect Ace to think otherwise but he still seems a little taken aback at having to agree with a pirate, even over mutual seething hatred/dislike of another. But that said, he can't let the agreement last long.]

There's always training though. [Although yeah, it's hella difficult to find things to do.]

[He just shrugs.] Even that gets old after a while.

Maybe you just need something to liven it up.
