Right, this is Smoker. I'm back in my own body, thanks to everyone who helped when I was a kid, and you know... during the shift.

Jitte and kickboxing lessons will be delayed until the 10th, but that doesn't mean stop practicing. Keep up the exercises, because I'll be very disappointed if any of you start slipping.

For anyone else interested in joining in, I teach basic self defense, kickboxing, and jitte. There are one-on-one sessions and group sessions, feel free to ask about a schedule because with the drafts ongoing, at least you can learn something to get a fighting chance for survival.

And who still here in the village knows anything about motorcycles? A friend recently reminded me life can be too short not to pursue some things.

Lupin, if you still remember the thing I asked Red about, I'd like to discuss it.

She shouldn't do that. Ideally she shouldn't even know me. For her own good.

You agree she's a genius, right?

I do. You agree she doesn't know much about people other than what she reads in books, right?

So? If you don't trust her to make her own decisions for herself; even if you disagree with them, you're not trusting her to even be strong enough to get stronger or wiser.

That's about the lowest a bar can be set for someone. And she definitely deserves better than that.

She might be naive, but she's not stupid. If you weren't good for her, she wouldn't like you so much.

And you aren't so weak as to let the fears from the past suffocate any chances you have for the future.

[He is. He wants to be. He doesn't need a future. Doesn't deserve a future, even if this place insists on it.]

Her "own decisions". You forget that the reason we even started to talk to each other was due an experiment, in which none of us was in their right mind. Why are you so sure it's her "own decision"?

Because after the fact you're both clear and in your own minds. True strength isn't preventing anything bad from ever happening, it's to keep getting stronger and do better after the fact.

And letting something good like dating each other come from a shift is actually a good thing.

Keimi adopted me after the other one, but it was both our choices after the fact. Simply deciding nothing good can happen from the experiments because it taints them is too stupid. And it's weak.

I'm not saying nothing good can happen from the experiments, I'm just saying that if something can only happen in them that means that it just isn't really that good. Besides, even keeping the experiments aside it's just a mistake for her to be close to me.

[Exasperated sigh.]

How is it a mistake if she's happier and safer with you?

Because she's not "safer". And her happiness it's on limited time if it depends on me.

She is safer, and I didn't say it's dependent, it's helped.

Look, something bad can always go wrong no matter where you are. Death, getting shipped out, sent back home, whatever. But in the meantime, you don't stop living over it.

If you think it's such a bad idea, tell her the reasons why and let her decide. But don't decide for her that you're too much for her to handle. It's disrespectful and she deserves better than that.
