[Voice] Jitte, Self-Defense, and Executions

Hello New Feathers and old, I'm Cap-- Err Smoker. [Wow Proof he has done this message way too many times, he momentarily forgot his own rank. Woops. Not that it even matters here.]

I teach jitte, kickboxing, and basic self-defense outside the barracks, and it's open to anyone, no matter how inexperienced. As you may have heard by now, every so often the Malnosso take people at random for drafts, and while non-combatants have other opportunities to help support, any self defense can help.

For others, I wanted to ask about other world's or country's history regarding executions. Are there any that changed the world, or have other people here seen them personally?

Tch. Perhaps I should have clarified. I was reading a book about French history. From another world. Which got me thinking about how it seems common throughout most worlds.

[Long awkward as hell pause.] You want to get drinks or something?

[Because you know... you could probably use it. And also... when do Ace and Smoker talk without rum? Never.]

[Shoulda, coulda, next time you're gonna.] What's common, making a big deal about them?

[There's a pause on Ace's end, too.] Maybe another time. [He might get drunk on accident, and then things will really spiral down.]

That they exist. That not everyone accepts them as a means of punishment, that for rates they don't seem to work as a deterrent, and -- something I'm sure will interest you most -- they're commonly used to depose heads of state in that other world I spoke of.

[That last one definitely gets his attention.] If only that could happen in ours. I'd love to see Akainu's head come right off. Looks like people in that other world actually have brains.

[Sorry, he gets snippy about this topic.]

Not interested in hearing what people from your own world have to say on the matter, hm? Well, I can't say I blame you. I don't think many of us would have pleasant things to say.

[Pssh. That's mild for what Smoker was expecting.]

Right. I'm trying to figure out how they got to that point.

[There's a lot of that will be going around.]

Go ahead. I'm sure you're not so arrogant as to believe you'll be the first one I've heard such things from.

Oh, I know I'm not. But I've a rather unique perspective on things. [ a beat ] Did you know the Marines never caught Roger?

[Tact. Smoker. Think about that.]

Really? [Oh man, his ears are totally perking up. Tell him Roger stories! Oh, but he can't seem too eager. Because you know. Gruff marine. It's not like he thinks Roger is cool or anything. :|] I'd heard rumors.

Now that would depend on what you mean by personally, don't you think?

[And... Ace... Smoker never said he wanted to kill Akainu. GOOD GOD. How anarchistic do you think he is? He doesn't like him, but he still works for him! I mean jeez look at his options. People like Doflamingo, Kaidou, Big Mom, Blackbeard, and Akainu. It's all very lesser evils up in here, but no he doesn't think destabilizing the world is a good thing. At all.]

I'm sure Dragon is well on the way to trying to discover it himself.

[Oh sure. NOW he finds the tact. Well, if you can call that not-so-subtle sidestep of everything "tact."]

You weren't ever there while they took place?

[Color him surprised, but he'll accept the claims of after the fact, even if he can't remember his time as a shinigami.]

Mn. He turned himself in a little while after he disbanded the Roger Pirates. [ shanks goes a little distant. ah, memories. ] He was sick, dying really, and had been for years. We all knew he was running on borrowed time.

[OR OVERTHROW HIM OR GET HIM ARRESTED OR WHATEVER. JUST. LEAVE THE HEADS COMING OFF TO LUFFY AND MARCO gosh.]

I sure as hell wish he'd speed it up. Even if he's already a little late for some people.

[Very different from Ace then.] And how do you think his crew felt about it? Or was it done to protect them?

[And uh. Someone else. Who will remain nameless.]

Oh, I was there. Not that the executed knew it. Or knew that I had a hand in their fate.

[Soft sigh. What can he say? That Marineford changed everything, not just Akainu becoming boss but the world's idea of justice and how to follow it? The Pacifista suddenly becoming a large role? Even if those things mattered to Ace, which Smoker doubts, they wouldn't help anything or change it.]

["Not everyone can be so rash." Tch. Sure as hell not not saying that. "These things take time." Not any better. "Yours isn't the only execution to change everything." And worse and worse.]

So then it's not executions you have a problem with obviously. It's just only acceptable for revenge?

[He tries to word it as carefully as Smoker can. Not an ounce of judgement in his voice, just an attempt to understand, tentatively searching for an answer.]

Even after the fact?

[Chomping on cigars. He knows she keeps it pretty secret still, so he's not sure if he should put on a filter or invite her over yet. Perhaps it will be clear soon.]

[Even if Smoker was trying to be careful, that still rubbed Ace in the entirely wrong way. He's going to try not to lose his temper.] Surprise, I actually hate executions. You get three fucking guess, and the first two don't count.

[Aaaand failing miserably at that.] Look, just because I chose to die doesn't mean I don't want Akainu dead. I'm pissed as shit for him killing me, and I want him gone. I won't even start on Blackbeard. Or did you forget the part where Whitebeard pirates get revenged for their nakama?

Most don't wake up after I'm through with them.

[She's been a bit more lax with it lately, but yeah, if the discussion gets any closer, she'll skip off to a filter.]

[Blinks, a little taken aback.]

[And quietly in return.] I remember the reputation, Portgas, that's why I asked.

You don't want Akainu dead? Because I'm fairly certain your crew do. [Just not more than Blackbeard he figures. Nor protecting... whatever they've been up to that he would know about.]
