[ voice ] Confiscating Pirate Ships, hello new feathers, teaching self-defense

Hello new feathers and old.

First off, I'm Captain Smoker. [Those who know otherwise can point out that he's a commodore, and that it doesn't even matter in this place.] I teach kickboxing, basic self defense, and jitte for anyone who would need it. I can also help spar against swordsmen if they're looking to expand their skills. Every so often a draft goes out taking people at random; kids and civilians alike, so even a little bit of practice can help. There are other self defense classes being taught so I'm sure we could work something out between teachers and create a formal schedule if need be.

Secondly, there's a lot of discussion about putting together a more permanent form of police or watch group to deal as first responders to threats to the village. Since that doesn't seem like something that will get worked out too easily, I'd like to suggest making a safe haven of the barracks. Anyone who can't or doesn't want to fight could safely put there in emergencies and defenders could keep watch.

On a different note; Jack Sparrow I'm confiscating your ship. Your previous acts of piracy here in Luceti have shown you're not to be trusted with one. Now let that be a lesson to other would-be pirates here.

Hugely. Loguetown is where the Pirate King was born and executed so it became something of a tourist spot for pirates, and it's the last stop before the Grand Line. Meanwhile, all over the world, every pirate worth his salt is going to the Grand Line to try to find One Piece, or just to make whatever trouble they can. It's not called the Age of Pirates for nothing.

Wow. And there are pirates here then, from your world or others?

In my home country there are several large criminal groups that cause problems. There's also mixed opinions about the military and then you have freelancers. Vigilantes, guns-for-hires, hunters, each with their own motives.

Yes. The Straw Hat Crew, Blackbeard: Marshall D. Teach, the Heart Pirates: Law and Bepo, and one Marco of the former Whitebeard Pirates, are all from my world.
Jack Sparrow and a few others are from other worlds.

I can understand that. There was a case of "supposedly" bounty hunters expanding into a crime ring that involved trying to take over a country in order to get a weapon. And the ring-leader was government acknowledged "hero," a shichibukai -- legalized pirate.

It really doesn't get easier, does it?

Lots of people. Does the general population need to worry about any of them?

It's like a game of rock-paper-scissors, but all the teams playing are secretly being supported by the other teams in the background. The government employs hunters to do their work for them because if they mess up, it's easy to dispose of them. I've also heard some of the criminal groups get support from government officials. It's a real mess.

It doesn't. It's all the civilians that get caught up in the middle too.

Blackbeard and Jack Sparrow. Blackbeard is purposely a buffoon, but he's a dangerous one, so don't let the act fool you; even all the others will tell you as much. Sparrow is more a nuisance, but he finds creative ways to be a problem. Law, Luffy, and Marco are all nearly as dangerous as Blackbeard, but they're unlikely to go on random crime sprees. I'd be very surprised if they did.

My world too, must be universal unfortunately.

Seems like things don't really change no matter where you go. Humanity's curse, maybe.

Hardest on the kids too. Some areas have it worse and you see a lot of kids on the streets. Most form gangs or get drafted into gangs themselves if not worse. It's a sad state.

Yes. That is the worst. At least the people here are generally decent about not involving kids. Not always though.

I've noticed there's a lot of kids around. Kids and teens. Unfortunate, but I suppose it could be worse. Draft aside, things seem safer here than in my own world.

A month and a half to go. Somethings you never really get used to in this place, but until you've experienced a shift, and seen everyone scrambled into a draft, you're still pretty green to Luceti. After that, you at least start to know the so-called standard villains, and the kind of weird shit the Malnosso do.

So I've been told by a few people. Looks like I'll have to keep myself busy until that happens. Why waste time if something could happen at any moment?

Absolutely. Do you mind learning with others? Otherwise I think I can work something out, but it'll be a lot more sporadic.

That's fine with me. Just let me know when the lessons are so I can work around my shifts at Seventh Heaven. Do I need to bring anything?

If Black Cage Hina is to believed, that is exactly what is required in order to deal with me.

Mid to late afternoons. If you want to learn jitte, see if you can pick one up at the blacksmith, I didn't actually think this many people would be interested. [Though he is THRILLED. Secretly. In a gruff manly way.]

Then maybe we'll get along.

By the by, hypothetically speaking, if you wanted me to be looking for certain keywords, which ones should I be looking out for? [Not saying she'll spy and report back to you, but it's good knowing the offers out there.]

Time will tell, though this seems a decent start.

Obviously it'll take fine-tuning to filter out the hyperbole, or metaphors, or more inane discussions, but just something that can do that for the posts, rather than the comments, should be a good start. Maybe something that trips all the words at once.

Got it. I'll have to see what can be done as far as technology and creating some kind of scanning systems, but until then it looks like reading and compiling reports. Unless some kind of emergency pops up, say a report every two weeks?
