Hello new feathers and old.

First off, I'm Captain Smoker. [Those who know otherwise can point out that he's a commodore, and that it doesn't even matter in this place.] I teach kickboxing, basic self defense, and jitte for anyone who would need it. I can also help spar against swordsmen if they're looking to expand their skills. Every so often a draft goes out taking people at random; kids and civilians alike, so even a little bit of practice can help. There are other self defense classes being taught so I'm sure we could work something out between teachers and create a formal schedule if need be.

Secondly, there's a lot of discussion about putting together a more permanent form of police or watch group to deal as first responders to threats to the village. Since that doesn't seem like something that will get worked out too easily, I'd like to suggest making a safe haven of the barracks. Anyone who can't or doesn't want to fight could safely put there in emergencies and defenders could keep watch.

On a different note; Jack Sparrow I'm confiscating your ship. Your previous acts of piracy here in Luceti have shown you're not to be trusted with one. Now let that be a lesson to other would-be pirates here.

On the second point, I don't think it could be too hard to organized. I realize the biggest issue is people coming and going unexpectedly, but I think an organized system could be worked out. Beyond that, how about some kind of city-wide warning system like a warning bell that can be heard all over town?

A jitte is a weapon, best known for its defensive form against swords. It's better at apprehending and disarming enemies rather than killing or maiming them in the process.

Kickboxing is a form of fighting focusing on full-body strength movements: kicking, and punching -- or boxing.

I was thinking of teaching how to use a sword or a bow full time. Even if people don't want to learn how to fight - [Hi, Rise -] they should still know how to defend themselves.

Kickboxing is a form of fighting with just basic punches and kicks. A jitte is a type of pike weapon for fighting against swords and pest for capturing enemies without killing or maiming them. Given the number of non-combatants here, it seems more their style since I can't just teach fighting with a shield.

Depends. Were my Ensign here, I'd direct you to her, but as she is unfortunately not, the best I can offer is sparring sessions. I don't teach swords, so you'd have to be strong enough to improve upon yourself with just regular practice against a jitte fighter.

He's going to be going through these conversations. Hacking what can be hacked, and noting where and who are having the unhackable conversations. He'll note what Ginia says in Jack's later post, but for now he's simply... thoughtful. He can guess at what has been said.

He finds Donatello's mention in Buffy's conversation and traces it back. It's a recent conversation, and he's been through Donatello's entries before. Investigating Karai's murder. It was an entry that had pinged him when it first went up... it had been about ships. To his regret, he should have paid it more attention - caught this sooner - but what is done is done.

And it makes him furious at himself. He has judged, you, Smoker, wrong. Thought you had more integrity than this... to steal... oh wait, confiscate, sorry, Sparrow's ship for a favor. While there's no love for Sparrow, he has to shake his head at the pettiness of it all. And the timing. There has been a murder. There have been attacks. And yet? You focus on this boat. And you have made Blackbeard aware of it.

He's going to soak in the blatant hypocrisy reeking from this entry, from every justification. It takes him back. Makes him nostalgic.
