[ voice ] Confiscating Pirate Ships, hello new feathers, teaching self-defense

Hello new feathers and old.

First off, I'm Captain Smoker. [Those who know otherwise can point out that he's a commodore, and that it doesn't even matter in this place.] I teach kickboxing, basic self defense, and jitte for anyone who would need it. I can also help spar against swordsmen if they're looking to expand their skills. Every so often a draft goes out taking people at random; kids and civilians alike, so even a little bit of practice can help. There are other self defense classes being taught so I'm sure we could work something out between teachers and create a formal schedule if need be.

Secondly, there's a lot of discussion about putting together a more permanent form of police or watch group to deal as first responders to threats to the village. Since that doesn't seem like something that will get worked out too easily, I'd like to suggest making a safe haven of the barracks. Anyone who can't or doesn't want to fight could safely put there in emergencies and defenders could keep watch.

On a different note; Jack Sparrow I'm confiscating your ship. Your previous acts of piracy here in Luceti have shown you're not to be trusted with one. Now let that be a lesson to other would-be pirates here.

[ooc: yeah, no, even Smoker doesn't expect that to work so feel free to tell him to fuck off. He just promised to give it a try, and he misses beating up pirates =\ Anyways, please do yell at him for overstepping bounds, though he really won't give a fuck.]

So late but he would not SHUT UP about this

[So yeah...

He's going to be going through these conversations. Hacking what can be hacked, and noting where and who are having the unhackable conversations. He'll note what Ginia says in Jack's later post, but for now he's simply... thoughtful. He can guess at what has been said.

He finds Donatello's mention in Buffy's conversation and traces it back. It's a recent conversation, and he's been through Donatello's entries before. Investigating Karai's murder. It was an entry that had pinged him when it first went up... it had been about ships. To his regret, he should have paid it more attention - caught this sooner - but what is done is done.

And it makes him furious at himself. He has judged, you, Smoker, wrong. Thought you had more integrity than this... to steal... oh wait, confiscate, sorry, Sparrow's ship for a favor. While there's no love for Sparrow, he has to shake his head at the pettiness of it all. And the timing. There has been a murder. There have been attacks. And yet? You focus on this boat. And you have made Blackbeard aware of it.

He's going to soak in the blatant hypocrisy reeking from this entry, from every justification. It takes him back. Makes him nostalgic.

Reminds him of...

Drake.]

Captain Smoker... although, really, isn't it Commodore now? No matter... the titles aren't important. I have to admit. I pegged you wrong. I apologize. You never struck me as a man who would simply take a ship as a favor for someone who just wants to play around with it. Though it's confiscation, in this case, no? Perfectly justified since the other person is a known pirate. Even though you have no more authority than the next man here. Which makes it a pretty word for piracy itself, but hell, what do I know?

This is a fine lesson to would-be-pirates. I'm sure they can take a lot of pointers from it.

[Why not? What if we want to go to the Drake-zone. Is it going to make you... uncomfortable?

You have no idea how bad I want one.]

If you want to go on about it - sure. [It seems to be a damn sore point with you.]

But I'm going to point out - as I'm sure numerous people have brought up - a few little problems with otherwise stunning logic. That boat is ocean bound, there are no rivers connecting Luceti with the sea, and there's a lovely set of mountains between here and the waves. So I don't see the Joanna Joyce doing any pillaging of the town unless she can somehow fly. She has no guns, there are no settlements beside the sea, and what's beneath the water is former desert. There's no rocks to run anyone aground with.

And while we're on the subject, what fleet of ships is he planning to sink again? My last count had two others... some more on the way, but not for a while. Is that wrong?

[He folds his hands. He's not mentioning Donatello because Leonardo had been his nephew in that alternate Luceti. And Splinter a very close friend.] So the line starts at a man and his boat out in the waters not doing much harm at all. You're right, there are more important things. [And if you were truly enamored of Justice you wouldn't be screwing around with this.] But I suppose you have your priorities.

Let's say you do manage to 'confiscate' the Joanna Joyce. It's been pointed out before that you'll be taking a man from the thing keeping him from the village in order to protect it. Not only will you be creating a possible nuisance at that bridge behind House 35 that he likes to haunt - a nuisance that will effect far more should he chose to maraud in protest, you will invoking the wrath of his Captain, Blackbeard. And if that happens, who knows who will get drawn into that. Furthermore, others may take offense at any attempts to claim Sparrow's ship and chose to get themselves involved. [And, the gleam in razor sharp eyes says, the intangibility granted by your Logia abilties may not save you from the consequences.] Quite a mess for an act of pettiness, and one that could haunt you for a long time to come.

Which doesn't change the point, of course. [Because like hell is he going to let this point slide.] This confiscation is still theft, no matter how you dress it up.

This is probably going to be a short thread, but oh this great fun

... [Softly] am I now? It's not semantics when you take something that doesn't belong to you. It's just piracy.

[Even softer, with a hint of a smile.] The point is to piss him off and get under his skin, Commodore. Deny and justify it all you like, but that's what's going on at the end of the day.

Frankly, though, I expect my word is shit to you. Pirate, after all. This is about the here and now, though. I'm not in the business of saving Marines from their own mistakes. [Pause] Or catching them when they fall. [Drake] I'm simply pointing out the obvious. It's your choice whether or not to listen.

I'm not going to raise a sword against you, if that's what you're concerned about. [That smile looks a tinge more amused] Not in this. Once a pirate, no longer a Marine, or so you say? Given how well on your way you seem to be already, perhaps the only thing left to say is congratulations.

Welcome to the ranks.

[Ha! Fuck off, huh?

First blood to Trafalgar Law.

And now for the rant of Justice - and he arches a brow at aware of the consequences of my actions, but otherwise remains placid - and Righteousness and self justification, in an attempt to salvage some moral authority and pride here. Appear reasonable. The just man. And not a fanatic trying to exercise authority he no longer has - Eustass, you would love this - in a place where that authority does not exist.

It does not disappoint. Beautifully done, Smoker.]

And your hypocrisy is blinding. But, oh, I think we're done speaking. [For now.] Clearly you have set your course. Enjoy sailing it.

We'll see what is proved at the end of the day. [And with a soft snort of amusement he terminates his end of the conversation. Those who hunt monsters indeed.

Drake would find this all so familiar.

Law certainly does.]
