[Voice] Jitte, Self-Defense, and Executions
Hello New Feathers and old, I'm Cap-- Err Smoker. [Wow Proof he has done this message way too many times, he momentarily forgot his own rank. Woops. Not that it even matters here.]
I teach jitte, kickboxing, and basic self-defense outside the barracks, and it's open to anyone, no matter how inexperienced. As you may have heard by now, every so often the Malnosso take people at random for drafts, and while non-combatants have other opportunities to help support, any self defense can help.
For others, I wanted to ask about other world's or country's history regarding executions. Are there any that changed the world, or have other people here seen them personally?
Thanks.

[voice//filtered] sorry, bro's gotta threadjack
[So much for that.] Please! That's my brother, I don't want him to know yet. I need... I need to tell him when I'm ready.
[voice//filtered] 1/4 perfectly reasonable given Smoker :|
[voice//filtered] 2/4
Just how many family members does Straw Hat have?! Do I have to face his long-lost sister next? Who, at this rate, will turn out to be Big Mam or something equally insane. Or maybe she's his Mom.
[Hey. He doesn't know Dragon's taste in women. :|]
[voice//filtered] 3/4
[voice//filtered] 4/4
Is it fine if I tell him a different execution story? One that failed?
[It's about Luffy :| He should say that in his request about telling the story, but no, he doesn't. Clearly it's just some other random ass execution that failed and as a marine Smoker happened to witness. Clearly.]
[voice//filtered]
And thank you. As for a story, tell him anything else.
[voice//filtered]
All right. [He almost would say "Sorry for worrying you" but uh. Nope. Not that nice.]
[voice] :| :| This is a perfectly acceptable story to tell ten year olds shhhhh
He was a pirate who had a fight with another East Blue pirate, Buggy the Clown, who much later turned out to have been in Roger's crew. Buggy captured him in seastone gallows and set him up to make a "flashy example" of him. The young pirate then knew he was truly caught and in spite of his imminent death told the world he'd be the next pirate king.
Well, given that this was Loguetown, the birth and execution place of Gold Roger himself, and this was on the very stand he told the world about One Piece -- [This entire post is an education in how to make Ace really mad jeez.] -- most people laughed. The man was about to die, how could he possibly become King of the Pirates? It was ludicrous to suggest. And the few seconds it bought by making Buggy flustered weren't enough to save him. So right as Buggy's knife was about to cut off his head, he smiled. In the same way as Roger himself.
He knew he couldn't be saved, he even told his friends goodbye and apologized for getting caught, but all the same he smiled.
[voice] To this kid? Very much so! >>;
Because that young man's Luffy. No doubt about it. There's no pirate coming from East Blue who would want to be the Pirate King as much as he does. And it's really not hard to imagine his crazy reckless little brother would grow up to become someone who'd face death with a smile. But to think Luffy's dream almost ended like that...
There's a small sound here that's a cross between a laugh and a sob before the kid manages to speak again, with something like anticipation in his voice.] T-that's unbelievable. So... what happened next? Did he--?
[voice] orz
Freak lightning strike struck the knife and tower and his rubber devil fruit saved him.
Needless to say, the crowd gathered there was quite shocked. [Shocked. Get it? Sabo will totally get this pun better than Dragon. Maybe. Actually fuck puns; moving on.]
Moreover, despite the gathered marines having been well-equipped with seastone nets, they were unable to fire them due to the sudden rainstorm. While unpredictable storms so close to the Grand Line are not uncommon for Loguetown, no one could have predicted this one. [WELL, Nami did, but Smoker doesn't know that. Not that he'd be surprised by this knowledge at this point, having gotten to
stalkknow her better in Luceti.][voice]
But... you know what? He can't help bursting out laughing at that pun. And the utter ridiculousness that is the D luck, after.]
Oh man, that's insane! A-a freak lightning?! A-and a rainstorm? Ahahahaha! Damn, that guy's luck is really, really incredible! [Laughing some more until he needs to catch his breath. And his bias might be showing now.] And? They managed to get away, right?! Did the Marines chase 'em to the sea too?
[voice]
Mm-hm. Loguetown's captain at the time actually had a perfect record of not letting any criminals escape his city, however. And he grew up there so he knew it like the back of his hand. [It is a little weird talking about himself in 3rd person, but it'd be stranger talking about it in first, so he's sticking with this for now.] He's also a devil fruit user so he captured Buggy and Alvida in a matter of seconds and headed down to cut off the Straw Hats' path on his motorcycle.
At the time, only Straw Hat had a bounty, so the marine captain was a little arrogant in thinking the rest of the crew didn't matter. [Well, at least he's painfully honest? Not to mention, 2+ years of chasing Luffy & 2 years in Luceti has done a lot to change Smoker's mind about how much the rest of Luffy's crew do matter.] Still, he caught the pirate at jitte point, at the time Straw Hat didn't have his haki under control so he couldn't fight a logia user, but at the last minute the Revolutionary Dragon showed up to rescue him.
[voice] /had to research this, and I still end up unsure OTL
Sabo finds the 3rd person strange too, since it's kinda obvious who this captain was already from Smoker's tone alone and other little clues. But since he's not one to interrupt a good story, he lets it go in favor of listening avidly. Until that last part.]
W-wait a minute... Why would a Revolutionary rescue Luffy? [There were talks of a Revolutionary group acting against the World Government, but from the bits of news Sabo heard in the town, they seem to still act underground... so why would one save a pirate in plain sight?]
[voice] I feel your pain. The final part with Dragon and Sabo is REALLY unclear
Not that anyone except Garp and Sengoku knew at the time. That would have actually been useful information on the bounty poster. [Not because Smoker cares who Luffy's related to, just when they get in his way. And a little forewarning about the most wanted man in the world showing up in the middle of nowhere seriously would have been nice.]
[voice] it is, so much /sob
[And wait a minute.] So everyone knows now? Why? What happened?
[He'll come across Smoker's very informative response to Ikki below in a bit, and he'll freak out at all the world-breaking shenanigans Luffy's been up to. But for now, just worriedly asking because being related to a Revolutionary isn't a good thing; not as bad as being related to a certain Pirate King, but near enough to worry.]
[voice] /pats head I think you handled it perfectly for what it's worth ;)
Sengoku let it slip when there was a war. He ordered marines not to underestimate Straw Hat and then mentioned that he's Dragon's son.
[Ahalsdkjaslkdj ahahahahahaha. That stupid over the top TL;DR. Smoker worked hard to make it extra difficult for Sabo to connect the dots to Ace though! But yes Sabo, be proud(?) of Luffy's knack for causing chaos. Seriously, Smoker has no doubt that Luffy is most likely to be Pirate King out of everyone in the world. It's almost like being Luffy's biggest fan!]
[voice] I--I hope so ;v; /clings
T-that war... Wh--why is Luffy in there?
[You tried Smoker, you really did! But Sabo has too many clues already from past conversations and while it's far from easy piecing them up together, he's had time to ponder these things before. He has his theories, but he's still not quite there yet, though! (And one day, he'll realize you're such a fanboy of his bro and try to make friends with you too. >>)]
[voice] /HUGS
Because Straw Hat shows up wherever there's trouble. The rebellion in Alabasta, Enies Lobby when it was destroyed, Sabaody where he punched a tenryuubito, it's simply more surprising that he didn't start the war.
Besides, nearly everyone was at that war. Every single shichibukai, former or current, nearly a full fourth of the New World's top pirates, Akagami Shanks, Blackbeard, Garp, Sengoku, they pulled in every marine along the Grand Line they could afford for that war. Even Tragalgar Law showed up in his yellow submarine.
[Come on, he deserves the best gold star for this man.]
[voice] now locked!
But shaking his head because there's more important things here. Like making sure of this one thing, for starters. And for that, he tinkers for a filter for the first time ever and somehow manages. Because some bros might be listening in. >>]
...Is this the same war the Whitebeard Pirates are involved in?
[All the stars, Smoker. All of them are yours.]
[voice] Locked 95%
Yes. Were involved. Whitebeard was killed by their traitor; Blackbeard. Blackbeard became a shichibukai when he defected from their crew in order to get into Impel Down and break out more men for his crew, then killed Whitebeard in the war for his devil fruit.
After that, Sengoku resigned for his failure to deal with the situation the way they wanted, and over some involvement with the prisoners Blackbeard and Straw Hat separately freed, with Impel Down having the worst break out of any prison in the world, despite their previously perfect record. Garp also retired despite holding his own in the war. Sengoku recommended Aokiji to take his place, but the -- [Hm.] other higher-ups wanted Akainu for his unrelenting pursuit of justice at any costs, so he and Aokiji fought to see who'd take the position of Fleet Admiral.
Unfortunately, Akainu won.
[And now you should be all caught up. Smoker's hoping that if he adds the second part it'll distract from forcing him to have to explain more about Ace and Whitebeard specifically.]

[After a while, his voice returns to its normal volume.] ...All this information's already common knowledge back home, right? I-- There's something big I'm still missing, but... I'm not gonna ask more 'bout it. I get this feeling you already know who I'm related with, so I think you're deliberately keeping things out from me.
[Pause.] Thanks for that, I guess.
[voice] Locked 95%
As a marine, we don't like that there was nearly bloodshed over a power struggle and a direction to decide the face of justice.
Marineford caused me a lot of other problems, but it was a big change for the world because it set that divide in motion. Akainu's Absolute Justice currently rules the marines. For better or worse.
If you want to know the pirate side of things, you'll have to ask them kid, but it's not just your brothers. I'm serious about the whole world changing from that fight.
[voice] Locked 95%
And he's rubbing his forehead now.] Geez, you're making me wanna ask more questions when I already said I won't. I mean, information's always good; you've provided an awful lot in this post, y'know. And that's surprising. I thought you Marines keep your affairs under tight wraps. Even Garp-jiisan doesn't talk much about the world like this.
As for the world changing... I guess it doesn't matter whose view I hear. I--I'm not meant to see it to know what's real anyway. [Always with the falter at that. But he recovers quickly enough, because the next part gives him all the confidence he needs.] All I know is that Luffy's going to be out there, changing it even more on his way to becoming the Pirate King.
[voice] Locked 95%
There's a difference between hiding truth from the public to protect them, and hiding it to protect oneself. I don't need to protect the marines like that. [Aka: He will obfuscate what he needs to, but only then.]
[And he gives Sabo a long look.] Even if it was hundreds of years ago, history still fascinates and shapes the world we live in today. You should make up your own mind about it, but you can't do that without facts at least.
I'll agree with you about Straw Hat though. For better or worse.
